We're Mikaela and Shawn. We started Spartan Kitchen in Calgary in 2016, making professional-grade kitchen tools for home cooks, and we still demo every tool ourselves at markets across Canada.
Two people, one kitchen, a lot of peelers.
We’re home cooks first. We couldn’t find a vegetable peeler we loved (we had 4!), so we made our own: chef-quality blades at a price that makes sense for a home kitchen.
We cook in a small space, so every drawer counts. We were tired of bulky gadgets that took up room and gave out after a few months. We wanted tools that hold up to everyday use, work just as well for lefties as right-handers, and last long enough that you never have to replace them.
Good tools also change what ends up on the plate. When prepping whole vegetables is quick, you skip the pre-shredded bags and plastic clamshells. That means fresher, more nutritious food, less packaging in the bin, and a lower cost per meal. Because the tools last, fewer end up in the landfill too.
For us, cooking is how you show up for people. Dinner with friends, the holiday table, a meal dropped off when someone is having a hard time. Good tools make that part easier.
It’s still just the two of us behind it. We answer the emails, we stand in the booth, and we test every tool in our own kitchen first.

If a blade dulls within 20 years, we replace it for free. Breakage, rust and bending are covered for life. Every tool works in either hand, and it's dishwasher safe, though we recommend hand washing.
